8th - Activity - I like Tom Cruise a lot!

Affective purpose: to share preferences with others; to promote interaction in class.
Linguistic purposes: to practice "preferences", such as: Who´s your favorite...? What´s your
favorite...? Likes and dislikes.
Suggested size of groups: the whole class.
Material: Flashcards
Duration:: 30 minutes
Procedure: a) The teacher talks about his/her favorite actor, actress (Brazilian/American/English/Australian, etc...), favorite movie, singer, music.
b) Then the teacher asks students about their favorite artists/movies/music. Elicit: "I like..."
Suggested questions:
Who´s your favorite actor, A?
How about you, B, do you like...too?
Who's your favorite actress, C?
Who do you prefer,------------- or ------------?
What kind of movie do you like?
c) The teacher shows examples of kinds of movies (flashcards) and talks about them.
d) The teacher shows examples different kinds of music (flashcards) and talks about them.
e) After talking about all kinds of movies and music, the teacher puts all the flashcards on the wall and then has students talk about actors, actresses,movies,singers,music.
Variation: If the teacher has some free time, he/she can bring up some curiosities about movies or movie stars.
